Cox hired as Altamaha RiverkeeperSeptember 10, 2010 Sonja Cox has been hired as the new Altamaha Riverkeeper to lead the advocacy organization that conducts water testing, organizes residents and sometimes files lawsuits to protect the Altamaha and its tributaries, the Ocmulgee and Oconee rivers. Cox replaces founding Altamaha Riverkeeper James Holland, who retired in May after a decade in the job. According to a news release from the Altamaha Riverkeeper organization, Cox grew up in Douglas County and earned journalism and law degrees at the University of Georgia. After a solo legal practice in real estate and litigation experience at several Atlanta law firms, Cox most recently served as an assistant attorney for Douglas County.
