Georgia Water Coalition

The Georgia Water Coalition is working to ensure that concerned citizens have a voice in the development and implementation of Georgia's Comprehensive Statewide Water Management Plan. We are continuing our efforts to protect the public interest and preserve the environmental integrity of water resources in Georgia. As the Water Plan is being developed, the Georgia Water Coalition's presence and involvement is essential to ensuring that Georgia 's water resources are managed in the best interest of all citizens.

If you and/or your organization believe,
  • That the surface and ground waters of the state continue to be a public resource managed in the public interest and in a sustainable manner by the state to protect natural systems and meet human and economic needs;

  • That water management must be guided by a comprehensive state water management plan, developed by a lead agency with a dedicated planning staff, in coordination with other agencies and with the participation of all interested citizens;

  • That effective water management requires regional water planning, based on watersheds, river basins and aquifers, that is tied to implementation including an adaptive management process; and

  • That regulation of interbasin transfers must be strengthened to reflect scientific knowledge, respect natural systems, and protect the basins of origin and receipt, then

You are invited to attend the Georgia Water Coalition's second comprehensive meeting of 2005 on Thursday, July 21, at the Alcovy ConservationCenter in Covington.

THE GEORGIA WATER COALITION NEEDS YOUR PARTICIPATION!

This summer the Georgia Water Coalition is focusing on educating and energizing concerned Georgians as we follow the state's water planning process. At this second meeting, we will look at various messaging techniques and delivery mechanisms as we begin developing our messages based on the statewide and regional issues of importance that we identified at the June 23rd meeting.

Thursday, July 21 is the second of at least three comprehensive meetings this summer. The next meeting is Thursday, August 11, at the Alcovy ConservationCenter in Covington.

If you have any questions, please contact Jerry McCollum or Robert Phillips.
