Altamaha Riverkeeper Alleges Dublin Wastewater Treatment Plant is in Violation of the Clean Water Act

On Wednesday, May 18th, the Altamaha Riverkeeper sent a 60-day Notice of Intent to Sue to the City of Dublin for being in violation of the federal Clean Water Act. The notice informs the City of Dublin that it must stop polluting the Oconee River or face legal action.

Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, Altamaha Riverkeeper James Holland investigated and documented unprocessed sewage, floating solid materials, and foam flowing out of the discharge pipe from the City of Dublin's wastewater treatment plant into the Oconee River. Additional follow up visits confirmed the discharge pouring into the receiving stream contained putrid materials associated with municipal sewage.

The Altamaha Riverkeeper's attorneys at the Georgia Center for Law in the Public Interest also visited the site and confirmed the problems. Based on the problems, The Georgia Center sent a 60-day Notice of Intent to Sue that informs the City of Dublin, that in their opinion, the city is in violation of the federal Clean Water Act.

James Holland, The Altamaha Riverkeeper says "Boaters and swimmers should stay clear of this area until this pipe can be cleaned up. The discharge from this pipe is just plain nasty."
