Jazzman Randall Bramblett The legendary songwriter, singer, and multiinstrumentalist grew up playing soul music in Jesup, Ga. His hero was James Brown, but he also heard a lot of Ray Charles and Bob Dylan. Growing up in Southeast Georgia, nature loomed large in his life, particularly the swamps around the Altamaha River. To Bramblett, the swamps represented something mystical, filling him with wonder and awe, fueling his interest in spirituality. Randall Bramblett has played with such musical giants as Bonnie Raitt, Chuck Leavell, Delbert McClinton, Steve Winwood, Elvin Bishop, and Francine Reed, and in such bands as Widespread Panic and Gov’t Mule. His eighth solo album, The Meantime, a hauntingly beautiful collection, has just been released. Crawdaddy wrote in Spin Magazine that Bramblett has “one of the strongest and most soulful white voices I’ve heard.”
