Sidney Lanier Bridge, photo by Sonja Cox

The Sidney Lanier Bridge is a cable –stayed bridge that spans the South Brunswick River in Brunswick, Georgia. The bridge is 7,780 feet in total length, making it the longest spanning bridge in Georgia. It was named for poet Sidney Lanier whose poem The Marshes of Glynn  describes the vast open saltwater marshes.

Every season there are thousands of turtle eggs laid on the nearby island beaches of St Simons, Sea Island, and Jekyll. Help ARK protect these waters by making a contribution to our Around the Watershed in 80 Days campaign and please send this email to your friends and family to ask them to make a special gift to watershed protection.

To keep lights on the bridge from disorienting the migrating turtles, the Georgia Department of Transportation worked with the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to install a minimum number of lights on both the bridge deck and the approach road and to use shielded low-sodium, low-wattage lights that cut glare and light scatter.

Working together to keep our watershed a better place to live. Stay tuned for more beautiful watershed wonders.

Please help us take full advantage of this gift by making a tax-deductible contribution today.
